Why Data Destruction?

Because data breaches have become more common, companies are seeking to proactively manage digital data both in their live environment and on retired assets. On-site data destruction is being mandated more frequently today across large and small companies.

Our Data Destruction expertise inculudes:

  • Data destruction by degaussing, crushing, erasure and/or hard drive shredding.
  • Services meet international data security standards.
  • All serial numbers of your storage devices are scanned and recorded.
  • Certified recycling of destroyed drives at the ITR facility.
  • Same-day Certificates of Destruction.

Your Secure and Compliant Data Destruction Solution

ITR uses clearly defined processes, guided by industry and government standards, to ensure all digital data is destroyed. Our audited processes provide peace of mind, accountability and assurance that your company’s privacy and corporate reputation remain intact.

Our on-site data destruction services allow you to witness and verify that data has been destroyed while devices are still in your custody. We inventory and destroy data on retired hard drives and storage media.
By erasing rather than destroying your hard drives, they can either be redeployed within your organisation or resold - a great option for destroying data and ensuring value recovery.

Secure Data Destruction options available in South Africa

ITR  offers several solutions for erasing data from drives still in laptops, servers, storage area networks (SANs) and network attached storage (NAS).

Secure Data Erasure: Protecting Your Information

Data erasure is a method of data sanitisation that uses software to completely destroy data beyond recovery. This process involves overwriting the information with random binary data (zeros and ones) according to predetermined criteria. The software then verifies that the erasure was successful, ensuring that the data is irretrievable.

By using data erasure instead of hard destruction methods, you will be able to reuse or sell the hard drives, which will ensure a better financial return for the company. All this is done in a compliant and secure manner, while ensuring data protection. This is an essential practice for any organisation or individual who is aiming to protect their sensitive information.

 Degaussing: Protecting Your Information

Degaussing devices, also known as degaussers, generate a strong magnetic field that disrupts the magnetic domains on the storage media. This process effectively scrambles the data, making it impossible to reconstruct. The degaussed drive will be left in an unusable condition, requiring disposal or recycling.

When your data demands the ultimate in destructive power, our TS-1XT NSA Listed high-speed hard drive and tape degausser will meet your requirements. An evenly distributed 20,000 gauss (2 tesla) magnetic field destroys the data on the media in 15 seconds. The TS-1XT includes a voucher for the SCAN-1X, a software and scanner package that enables you to create audit-worthy media reports as you degauss.

Hard drive Crushing: Protecting Your Information

Hard drive crushing is an effective and secure way of ensuring that your data is permanently destroyed and cannot be recovered. By physically deforming and shattering the hard drive, this method provides peace of mind that your sensitive information remains confidential and protected.

ITR utilises the high-speed, high-powered PD-5, which is among the fastest and lightest NSA/CSS EPL-listed hard drive destroyers currently available on the market.  Designed to meet evolving technology challenges, its amplified crushing power mangles hard drives in under 20 seconds, including the latest helium (He) drives. Designed for use inside data centres and office environments, the energy-efficient PD-5 destroys multiple drives at one time with no messy hydraulics. The PD5 destroys up to 1,800 (2.5 in.) and 360 (3.5 in.) hard drives per hour.

Using the SSD-1. Ninety spikes puncture, perforate, waffle and demolish individual memory chips on solid-state media, thumb drives, mobile phones, and SSHDs preventing data retrieval.

 Reporting (Certificate of Destruction)

Our comprehensive reports and destruction certificates provide:
Proof of Compliance: Meeting regulatory requirements and data protection laws.
Assurance that sensitive data has been permanently destroyed, reducing the risk of data breaches or   recovery.
The audit trail provides documentation for internal records and external audits, ensuring accountability and traceability.

After the completion of the data wiping and destruction process, we generate a comprehensive report that comprises:·
The serial numbers of the destroyed hard drives.
The methods used for data wiping and destruction.
The date and time of destruction.
Signatures of the authorised personnel overseeing the process.

We provide an official certificate of destruction, confirming that all data has been permanently erased and the hard drives have been destroyed. This certificate serves as a vital document for compliance and record-keeping purposes.
